Udta Punjab” has been conceded an “A” declaration with 13 cuts, said control board boss Pahlaj Nihalani, including that the producers were never requested that drop Punjab from the title.
“‘Udta Punjab’ has been passed with An endorsement (limited for grown-up audience)… We have given it 13 cuts,” Nihalani told columnists.
He said now the ball is in the makers’ court.
“Whether they are heading off to the court or tribunal, and what choice is the court giving, that is for them to see. The maker guaranteed that we had requested change in the title, yet we never approached them for it.”
“The maker went to the media for reputation,” he included.
Co-created by Phantom Films – one of whose proprietors is movie producer Anurag Kashyap – and Balaji Motion Pictures – “Udta Punjab” is a film on the medication danger in Punjab.
The Abhishek Chaubey directorial is booked to discharge on June 17….
The film has been in news ever since it came to light that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had demanded 89 cuts. Kashyap then condemned Nihalani for his dictatorial ways.
The revising committee later brought down the cuts to 13.
The producers moved the Bombay High Court, which is due to give its verdict later on Monday…….
