Ram Gopal Varma gave Anurag Kashyap his first enormous break in Hindi silver screen. They cooperated as executive essayist on a few activities before at last breaking apart. Kashyap talked up uninhibitedly and over and again about the innovative debasement of RGV. Tables were turned a year ago when Ramu got an opportunity to make a blast of snide burrows at Kashyap for Bombay Velvet.
With no adoration lost amongst Ramu and his previous protegee, it would appear just as the best approach for them would be stay as far separated as could be expected under the circumstances.
Fate, alas, willed otherwise. On May 27 Ram Gopal Varma’s comeback to Hindi cinema Veerappan will clash at the box office with Anurag Kashyap’s Raghav Raman 2.0.
Interestingly, both are bio-pics of dreaded outlaws and cold blooded killers. While Ramu tells the story of the ‘Sandalwood Smuggler’ Veerappan, Kashyap’s is the tale of the serial killer Raman Raghav (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who terrorized Mumbai in the 1960s.
Both the directors are making a comeback of sorts. Ramu’s last Hindi release Satya 2 in 2013 was a flop. As for Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet in 2014 it is regarded as the mother of all box office disasters.
Evidently the two similar-mood films will eat into each other’s business. But from what I hear neither Ramu nor Kashyap is willing to budge……….
