The beer-swilling, doughnut-loving oaf will talk about current affairs and answer fans’ questions – live – in a new episode.
Homer Simpson will appear live during a new episode of the hit TV show The Simpsons.
In a first for the show after 27 seasons, the beer-swilling, doughnut-loving oaf will talk about current affairs and answer fans’ questions from social media.
Dan Castellaneta will voice Homer in real time during a three-minute segment of the animated sitcom’s 15 May episode in the US.
Showrunner and executive producer Al Jean announced the news on Twitter on Wednesday.
He wrote: “During the episode, Marge, Lisa and Bart will turn the show over to Homer who will take a break from stuffing his face to comment on the events of the day LIVE.”
Homer will be live thanks to motion capture technology, he explained.
“Dan Castellaneta will be in the studio and not only what he says will go out live, but the motions he makes will be incorporated in what Homer does on screen,” he told CNNMoney.
“He’ll be saying something current like, ‘can you believe Donald Trump shot a man today’ or whatever is going on.”
